HASHIRIM - Jewish Music in 4-part Harmony

If you would like to sing Jewish music in four-part harmony, we invite you to join our choral group.
Singing together enhances our connections to Judaism, deepening our spiritual experience, bringing joy to us and to our audiences.

Our primary mission is community outreach, bringing Jewish music to senior facilities, where residents might not otherwise have a chance to hear this music as well as participate. Reaching out brings pleasure to us, and we also improve our vocal techniques while learning new music and new harmonies. Our repertoire ranges from folk to modern music in Hebrew, Yiddish, English and Ladino.

Begun in 2003, HaShirim numbers about 30 singers of all ages from throughout the Peninsula-South Bay. Our director, Billie Bandermann, teaches singing at De Anza College and directs the sanctuary choir at St. Jude's Episcopal Church in Cupertino.

We meet every Monday evening from 7:15 -9:15. We ask that participants attend regularly so that we can develop a choral blend.

HaShirim has performed at To Life!, the Palo Alto Jewish street fair, and Jewish Community Centers and senior residences throughout the region, including the Jewish Home in San Francisco, the Reutlinger Home for Jewish Living in Danville, the Moldaw Family Residences in Palo Alto and The Forum in Cupertino.

A voluntary tax-deductible contribution to Hashirim helps to cover expenses: director, accompanist, music supplies and occasional hall rental. However, your voice is the contribution we prize most, and no one will be turned away because of financial considerations.

We would like another six people to fill out our group, especially TENORS.
